Botox is one of several brands of ‘Botulinum toxins’, prescription medicines also called muscle relaxers. By temporarily relaxing the muscles below the skin they effectively soften the lines and wrinkles caused by smiling, frowning and other facial expressions.
What Areas can be Treated?
Muscle relaxing injections are mainly used to treat three facial areas where expression lines appear:
Crow’s feet (corner of the eyes)
Glabellar frown lines (between the brows)
Horizontal forehead lines
How Long does the Effect Last?
The relaxing effect appears at the end of the first week and continues for between three to six months.
About the Treatment
Muscle relaxing injections are safe and relatively painless. The treatment normally takes about 20 minutes and can be injected, only by a trained healthcare professional.
Dermal fillers (Restylane, Juvederm etc) are injectable smooth gels containing Hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance present in the skin which bonds with water molecules to retain moisture and plumpness.
Injected into the skin, fillers replenish the skin’s own HA, boosting hydration to restore volume and lift the skin.
What can Fillers be Used For?
Smoothing out facial lines and wrinkles eg. nose to mouth folds, smoker’s lines, marionette lines etc. By injecting the gel underneath the lines or wrinkles the skin is lifted upwards which effectively ‘fills’ them.
Dermal Fillers can also enhance lip volume and contour, revitalise and improve the elasticity and smoothness of the face, neck, hands and decolletage. This is achieved by injecting a series of micro-doses of the gel into the rough, dry or crepey skin.
How Long does the Effect Last?
The effect of the treatment is noticeable immediately for lines and wrinkles . Normally the effect lasts between six and nine months.
About the Treatment
Combined with an anaesthetic, either in the gel or as a cream applied to the skin, dermal fillers are comfortable and safe. The treatment takes about 20 minutes and should be injected only by a healthcare practitioner.
